We’re at the park, and she’s happily bouncing, We’re at the park, and she’s happily bouncing, amazed by the big trucks driving by, never wanting to stop going down the slide, smiling constantly — and I’m laughing with her, amazed at her joy and think — Is this what God feels like with me as His child?

Delight. Lightness. Wonder. Love.

I was filled to the brim with it, covering every crack and reaching every corner. And then I realized — this. is. it.

This is how I operate in the world.

I felt so... whole... not because of my efforts at wholeness but because I have God and He has me. (Psalm 23 rings loud: with Him as my Shepherd, I lack nothing.)

The best I can do for myself is accept and live in His love, especially when mistakes and lack and circumstances scream reasons I can’t. And the best I can do for others, those under my roof and those on this platform, is to extend invitations of His love through my own and through His Word.

If your life has told you He doesn’t want to love you or know you, I’m here to tell that He does. It’s waiting for you, probably even pursuing you... it just takes a Yes of faith.

Message me if you want to talk about it; I would LOVE to hear your story, no matter how different we are.

You're not forsaken,
You're not alone
His love is unending
So know it well
Remind your soul,
remind your spirit,
remind your heart
The love of the Father
Know it well

Every week it seems I’m inspired by a comment a friend and pastor made years ago — “Don’t be afraid to talk to someone about the truth of Jesus. Think of it as joining a conversation God might already be having with that person.”

May we be conduits of that strong, courageous, welcoming, comforting, healing, transforming, sustaining, peacemaking, eternal Love. Or as Bernice King said, “Love puts in work.”

Such brokenness we see, such pain, such fear. Attend to Jesus — Lord, Savior, King — with all your honest thoughts and feelings, and let His power and love change you. Let Him form and re-form you into a help for the hurting, a bright spot for those in the dark, a presence for others to rest in. A ‘little Christ’ on the earth.

Living life with the Holy Spirit — “you fulfil Living life with the Holy Spirit — “you fulfill the will of God through the inner influence of His Spirit instead of the outer influence of the law of God” (David Guzik).

This took me probably 15 years of following Jesus to grasp. It felt too easy, my willpower was my measuring stick, and the freedom was terrifying.

But alas, God’s way is the best way, and there is no substitute for the Holy Spirit. I can’t muster spiritual fruit, but His goal, thankfully and marvelously, is vineyards and vineyards.

May we surrender this work to Him.

2015 Favorites: Movies + Music

Let’s talk about entertainment… 2015 was a pretty great year.

2015 Favorites: Movies, Albums, Etc | heartnatured

Avengers: Age of Ultron – I’m a Marvel nerd, so even if it can be a little far-fetched, I’m a big fan. I also find the character dynamics of the Avengers hilarious. Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, all fabulous.

Inside Out – I hope everyone saw this movie. It was clever, funny, sweet, and had a great message. Disney outdid themselves with this story — so innovative.

Cinderella – A classic. I enjoyed every thing about this movie – the costumes, the characters, the message.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens – J and I up and decided to see this at 10pm the other night. In our comfy sweatpants, with candy in our pockets, we ventured back into the world of Star Wars. It definitely lived up to everyone’s hype, I thought it was great. We decided the goal must have been to be a ‘connector’ of sorts; with the classic characters and a bit of nostalgia in storytelling. I’m interested to see what kind of story the next two will tell.

2015 Favorites: Movies, Albums, Etc | heartnatured

Brave New World – I wrote about it here. The combination of a great voice with challenging and powerful lyrics makes this one of my favorites.

Neon Steeple – David Crowder is an unique experience, I think. A mix of folk music and rock and hymns.

Lauren Daigle – I was late to the Daigle party, but happy I finally stumbled upon it. Her album is one of those where you could leave it on shuffle because you like every single song. I think her song ‘First’ is played on the radio a lot.

Psalms II – Shane & Shane has always been a sweet favorite of mine. They are authentic, talented, and worship the Lord with simplicity. This most recent album is definitely my favorite, I think (and they have a lot of albums so that’s saying quite a bit).

I’d love to hear what your favorite movies and music from 2015 are!

Ahhh, I LOVED Inside Out! The idea for the movie was actually from a professor at the University of Minnesota, so I have a lot of extra love for it :)

I really enjoyed listening to Lauren Daigle this year too. Her voice is so unique.

The new Cinderella movie quickly became an instant favorite! So beautiful in so many ways, and that actress was the BEST Cinderella! And Inside Out was definitely the best Pixar movie!
