Every week it seems I’m inspired by a comment a friend and pastor made years ago — “Don’t be afraid to talk to someone about the truth of Jesus. Think of it as joining a conversation God might already be having with that person.”

Such brokenness we see, such pain, such fear. Attend to Jesus — Lord, Savior, King — with all your honest thoughts and feelings, and let His power and love change you. Let Him form and re-form you into a help for the hurting, a bright spot for those in the dark, a presence for others to rest in. A ‘little Christ’ on the earth.

Living life with the Holy Spirit — “you fulfil Living life with the Holy Spirit — “you fulfill the will of God through the inner influence of His Spirit instead of the outer influence of the law of God” (David Guzik).

This took me probably 15 years of following Jesus to grasp. It felt too easy, my willpower was my measuring stick, and the freedom was terrifying.

But alas, God’s way is the best way, and there is no substitute for the Holy Spirit. I can’t muster spiritual fruit, but His goal, thankfully and marvelously, is vineyards and vineyards.

May we surrender this work to Him.
“The deeper our faith, the more doubt we must en “The deeper our faith, the more doubt we must endure; the deeper our hope, the more prone we are to despair; the deeper our love, the more pain its loss will bring: these are a few of the paradoxes we must hold as human beings. If we refuse to hold them in the hopes of living without doubt, despair, and pain, we also find ourselves living without faith, hope, and love.” Parker J. Palmer
I pose to you what the Holy Spirit posed to me rec I pose to you what the Holy Spirit posed to me recently: What if you made choices out of fear of missing out on God instead of fear of missing out on what others deem significant?

In all honesty, FOMO sneaks up on me not along paths of a friend’s travel adventures or home decor or even if friends hang out without me. My FOMO animal comes in the form of popular and effective Christian voices. Because of technology and social media, I have access, though not complete (because we’re not actual friends), to their lives and ministry, their work and the personality they choose to share online. While a good thing in many ways, it stops being good when it becomes an avalanche I can’t keep up with but am afraid to stop.

If We Were On A Coffee Date (Now A Monthly Post)

Doing a link-up for the first time, I don’t know what I’m doing. To say the least. And I’m fine with that, but it’s taken me a little time to figure out what I want it to be. I’ve decided to make it a monthly post, in the hope that more friends and lovely strangers can join in without throwing a kink in their possibly already filled post schedules.

So, if we were on a coffee date…

I might be adventuring into the green tea world of Starbucks. Do you like green tea? I think I could do it if it had a peach twang or something.

I would tell you how I’ve caught the spark of home decorating and organizing. I feel like it comes in random waves – is it like that for you? Right now I’m in a season of decorator’s buzz (watching the entire season of Fixer Upper in about two weeks probably only adds to this buzz.. channeling my inner Joanna Gaines). I’m daydreaming about art for the wall, and prints to frame, and how to organize our clutter.

I would ask you if you’ve ever watched Fixer Upper, and do you like Joanna’s style? Because I do. A lot.

I would excitedly tell you that I think physical therapy is genuinely helping my neck. Hooray! Praise the Lord. I think I’m finally on the road to real recovery, I think. I keep giving myself the patience speech, though, so hallelujah for grace in that.

I would ask you what your all-time favorite recipe to make is. I created a binder to keep my printed out recipes in, finally, so I’m accumulating our favorites. I’d love to know yours!

I would tell you that I’ve been blowing through books. I’m a bookworm by nature, but I’ve probably read 4 books in the past week and a half. Lord, Change Me by Evelyn Christenson, Disciplines Of A Beautiful Woman by Anne Ortlund, His Needs, Her Needs by Willard Harley, and I Saw The Lord by Anne Graham Lotz. All distinctively different, all great reads.

I would ask you about an item on your bucket list. I have a serious travel itch at the moment, daydreaming of the Grand Canyon, Italy, Ireland, even the funky streets of California. What’s in the top 5 of your bucket list? Do you like to travel?

A monthly virtual coffee date — let’s have fun with it. :)

I love these coffee date types of posts! Thanks for sharing! :) Also, I totally love Fixer Upper, too! We don’t have a TV but I watch it online whenever I can. My parents have a weekly “date night” to watch it. :) And I just put together our favorite printed out recipes into a binder last weekend — so fun!!

Lisa, I will confess I underestimated the value of physical therapy. But I’m slowly learning! Thanks, friend.

I love that you’re doing a monthly coffee date link-up!
Have you Starbucks’ peach green tea lemonade?? I don’t like green tea but this drink is AMAZING. I’ve only just discovered it. I’m obsessed.
Also, my HUSBAND is obsessed with Fixer Upper! Haha! We watch it in our house because he loves it so much!

I also love the idea that your parents make a date for Fixer Upper – that’s so sweet.
