Imagine a table unlike any other table,
At the head sits your Savior,
Beside you sits a brother or sister;
This table is one of eternity design
Imagine a table set for two;
It’s a place you feast,
A place you craft,
A place you sort,
A place you cry,
A place you laugh,
A place you meet.
Receive the welcome of your Host;
To come as you are,
To bring what you carry,
To be given fresh counsel,
To lay it all on the table,
To be directed to a different path,
To surrender your will.
You come to this table every hour,
Every minute,
Not because you need something from Him
But because you need Him;
Even when no word is said there is always
Delight in being together.
You come hungry.
You come thirsty.
You come lonely.
You come rejoicing.
You come sad.
You come weary.
You come disappointed.
You come thankful.
You come expectant.
It’s not a table to be rushed to and from,
Although that happens often;
It’s a table that can be clouded by sin,
but it’s a table to be savored
and a connection to be pursued.
It’s a table of communion,
obedience,
rest,
holiness,
friendship,
grace,
joy,
sorrow,
desire.
It’s the presence around this table that
fuels your denying self,
energizes your following close,
sustains your abundant living.
Someday you’ll sit at THE table of eternal design,
surrounded by fellow saints rescued from their sin.
At the head sits your Savior,
and everything before this fades from view.
Until then, spend as much time as you can
at the table with
God inside you, God with you,
the fellowship happening in your soul,
the communion you were created for.
