spring cleaning: personal care

03/31/2021 · In: clean beauty, wellness

Do you spring clean? I confess I love it. I think I’ve been spring cleaning for the past year. In the last few years I have been pursuing simplicity – possessions, habits, media, etc – and it’s been an amazing process. Beautycounter has helped me simplify my ‘beauty routine’ because I use less products that pack more punch. By prioritizing the care of my skin and investing in better products, I not only feel healthier knowing the products are clean, I’m able to give more energy to other things.

I love hearing what other people love, and asking around has been the best way to find great things. If you’re interested in spring cleaning YOUR skincare and makeup routine, I want to share a few of my favorites.

Deodorant – I don’t think there are enough conclusive studies about deodorants and anti-perspirants yet, but if I can find a cleaner option that does the job I say why not?! This article had some really good points to consider. I’ve tried 1-2 cleaner deodorants but none are like Beautycounter’s new clean deo.

Foundation – I remember my mom loving certain products so much she would find and buy them on Ebay long after they were discontinued. I haven’t had a lot of skin in the foundation game. It didn’t really matter what I wore and I changed up every few years. Beautycounter’s Skin Twin and Dew Skin are now my go-to choices. Skin Twin matches beautifully, with great coverage but also feels moisturizing and light. Dew Skin has SPF and feels like a serum going on. Dreamy.

Sunscreen – I was late to Beautycounter’s sunscreen line, but I have been happy with the results! Once I started working with Beautycounter I learned more of what is put into sunscreen. I couldn’t believe the ingredients that were allowed to be mass produced and distributed in common sunscreens. Now, with Anna especially, I’m more aware and thoughtful about the products I use on both of us, and Beautycounter’s sunscreen is top notch. It rubs in well without leaving a white film or sticky residue. I use the body and face stick the most for both myself and my kids since it goes a long way. Also, another thing I love about BC products is they are safe for non-pregnant, pregnant and postpartum life.

Cleansing Balm – Yall. It’s pricey, but it has a bazillion uses and it lasts a long time. (Also, if you’re a consultant, it’s $54 instead of $72, hey heyyyy.) This multi-tasking cleansing balm, perfect for day and night use, hydrates while it cleanses, removing makeup and impurities with nourishing ingredients that won’t strip away your skin’s natural moisture. (Bonus: it can also be used as a mask for a hydrating overnight facial.)

Lipstick – I have always resisted lipstick. I didn’t like the way it felt. I could never find the right color. It was Burt’s Bee’s tinted chapstick all. the. way. Then Beautycounter launched new formulas for their lipstick and gloss and now I use of them every day. Truly, the lipstick feels just as moisturizing as your favorite lip balm. With Beautycounter’s awesome return policy (use it up to 60 days and return it if you don’t love for a full refund), I invite you to try a shade or two for yourself. I highly doubt you’ll be disappointed. :)

Moisturizer – I inherited dry skin, and passed it along to my daughter. A good moisturizer has long been a staple on my bathroom counter and I laugh because I would happily use all of Beautycounter’s moisturizers. As you age, your skin starts to lose elasticity and the fine lines show up… did you know this? Haha, trick question. A good night cream promotes firmer, smoother and hydrated skin during your skin’s nightly cycle of repair. This adaptive moisture lotion and this soft cream are my faves.

I joined Beautycounter for a few reasons, but a major one is how effective the products are on my skin and hair and I wanted to share my honest experience when I could.
