Closeness to God is what we were made for. Opportunities to know Him and be known by Him. A life of loving and being loved by Him. He is Creator, almighty and sovereign and holy. I am creature, humble and finite and dependent. And yet, He moved into my heart when I said my first Yes to Him.
Most every day, I’m confronted by what puts (or could put) distance between us. Sometimes it is my lack of belief in His forgiveness and I stay away out of shame. Sometimes it’s my valuing of entertainment over stillness. Sometimes it is my willful disobedience. Sometimes it is my distrust in His nature.
But underneath all of life’s stretching, all His sanctifying, all my following, He is mine and I am His. Hallelujah.
We are the dwelling place of God and He wants to be at home with us. Every moment can be infused with awareness of Him. Every breath can be one of gratitude and worship. Every question can be a moment of trust and surrender. Every step forward, backward or sideways is never done alone. He is incomparable, uncontrollable and powerful. And He desires my attention. He is God regardless of my feelings, circumstances or struggles. And in His perfection He is never not offering help, love, mercy, strength, wisdom and presence.
What tends to put distance between you and God? How can you reorient your attention to Him? In what ways can you make space to talk and listen?
What a wonder, this life we get to have.
May we want as much of Him as we can get while we walk the earth.
