This series is for women to share what they are learning to spiritually clothe themselves with, how they choose to adorn their heart, and what they choose to put on because of their desire to be precious in God’s sight and part of His Kingdom.
Your adornment must not be merely external–braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God. 1 Peter 3:3-4
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:12
The idea of ‘putting on’ an element of God’s Spirit like a piece of clothing has never been that compelling of an idea to me, but recently, I ponder the above 1 Peter 3 verse — let your adornment be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God — and its importance all but screams.
As women in today’s world, it’s easy to get swept up in the value of only outward appearance. The idea that we need to be viewed a particular way by others — to feel loved, accepted, or confident. Sometimes we compromise the time and energy needed to be more like Jesus, to experience more of Him, for satisfaction from other human beings.
